Is there a way to keep my projects showing up under Projects in the left pane but set a project “inactive” so that the first task in that project does not show up under Next?
I think you can simply set the project itself to “Someday” instead of “Next” to achieve that.

Thx for the reply. Unfortunately not, since when you set the project to someday it will disapear from the project list. And that is what I want to avoid.
It does not disappear completely. If you expand the project list, you can still see it.
Thx a lot, not exactly what I wanted, but that seems more than good enough. I will try that for some time.
