I would just add those tags to both areas.

Could you please be more specific? Of course you can add them to several areas but you still can only use them wit AND logic?
You have to think of every possible combination that might be a useful way for you to look at your list in the future. which leads to less and less useful filtering with longer lists. The given task will show up on more areas with every tag you add.

Lets ignore the definitions of AoR / Area for the moment. I need to better understand the specific issues that arise from the current design.

What if you keep your current tagging approach, but perform filtering via the filter section where more flexible filtering is possible?

For example, you have the Work area (it’s easy to maintain it by just creating all your projects while “Work” is selected). There’s no reason to use, say, “work-ops” as the global filter as long as it doesn’t work in a way that’s helpful.

When you are at Work and you want to do something from “work-opps” or “work-leads”, you go to Next and negate irrelevant tags (finances, strategy, etc).

What do you think? Do you see reasons why this wouldn’t work?

I had similar questions than manu and ‘negating’ tags totally worked for what I needed - thank you for explaining that!

I used the suggested approach for a while now.
I still would prefer using the area selector. Just because it integrates better with the everdo apps and it’s easier to use.
Probably I will switch to use the builtin areas function again and just go without the possibility to show multiple areas at one time.
I just hope the feature will be added sometime.
