The coloring will hopefully make it easier to navigate a large tag cloud.

And the new icons in navigation look more even.

Does Everdo automatically detect and prompt for new versions or is the upgrade process manual?

The upgrade process is manual, but there’s a notification feature which lets you download an updater directly. It seems to not work in 1.1.3 due to a bug, but it should be fixed in 1.1.4.
