I have a few feature requests that have come about from using Everdo (on Linux) for a number of years now.
In trying to improve how I use Everdo and my own workflow, I’ve realized a few things that might be handy, if they were added to Everdo:
Filter within lists
(different from search as this would “reveal” / filter the items in the list) Similar to how Thunderbird handles this functionality, perhaps.
i.e. Typing in “email” in the filter box would show only the list items with “email” in the title and/or description, and hide all other todo items.
With the ability to then allow item(s) to be selected while the others are hidden. So if the filter is cleared, the item selection / focus is retained. Use case: When looking for one item in a long list of items, a filter can surface that item, allow it to be selected, clear the filter, and then easily move the item(s) up / down / to another list, or edit.
Customizable hotkey to move items from Inbox to (the top of) Next list
Ctrl-A select all todos in a list
(Use case: For easier moving of multiple items from list to list, etc)
I have, and I do use that from time to time, but for a long list that goes off the screen it’s less useful. That’s when I find myself longing for a “Ctrl-A” type of hotkey. Also, as a side note, when having selected multiple items with Shift+click, and trying to move them with Shift+Up/Down, it only moves the top-most selected item. And trying to move them with the mouse just moves the one item directly under the mouse, not the selected group of items.
Anyway, thanks very much for considering these. I really appreciate all your hard work on Everdo, it’s excellent and very useful to me.
Exactly that. Aside that, moving items is not that smooth and clear as I wish it to be. Sometimes I have to drag and drop a item twice to move it to the desired place.
Recoreded as an idea to think about. There’s already :n - wouldn’t it work nearly as well? If I understand correctly, the proposed change optimizes a use case where items are moved directly to Next without making any other edits. Does that happen often enough to micro-optimize the interaction?
This one is a clear win, added as a feature request to do soon.
This was brought up before, so there’s a ticket for it. We’ll get there eventually.
Ah, ok. Well, I was meaning processing items that already exist and have a title in a way that is quicker than going in and having to edit each title. Inline commands are interesting, I didn’t know about them, and I can see how they would be useful when creating an item (although I tend to use the buttons on the right of the New Item box to determine where to put it, if I need to). I was meaning a hotkey might be helpful to move items to the Next list when processing multiple Inbox items.
A use case might be if many items were added to the Inbox and weren’t processed until a later date. Then on that later date a hotkey might provide an easy way of moving it to the Next list during processing multiple items (without having to edit the title further).
